In the Footsteps of Sienese Saints

City of the Virgin, the “Holy Advocate” of the Sienese

City of the Virgin, the “Holy Advocate” of the Sienese, Siena has throughout history served as birthplace or home to numerous figures of extraordinary spiritual value.  St. Catherine of Siena, co-patron of Italy and of Europe, was born here in 1347.  San Bernardino chose the Piazza del Campo as the site of his sermons.  St. Ansano, martyr and patron of the city, met his death here.  The Saints of Siena Tour explores the lives and deeds of the saints through visits to numerous local sites such as the Church of San Domenico, the Sanctuary of St. Catherine, and the Trench of St. Ansano.
